| Even though there won't be a Triple Crown winner this year, the Belmont Stakes could be compelling - if the handlers of a very popular filly ultimately decide to bring their horse to New York.
Rachel Alexandra fulfilled all expectations Saturday by becoming the first filly in 85 years to capture the Preakness. With Calvin Borel aboard, Rachel Alexandra broke to the lead early and held off Kentucky Derby winner Mine That Bird to win by a length.

Mike Smith won't ride Mine That Bird in Belmont |
| Kentucky Derby winner Mine That Bird is in need of yet another jockey.
Mike Smith, who rode the gelding to a second-place finish in Saturday's Preakness Stakes, won't ride him in the Belmont Stakes on June 6 because of a previous commitment.
Smith is already set to ride Madeo in the $300,000 Charles Whittingham Memorial Handicap at Hollywood Park that day.
The Hall of Fame rider is sticking with Madeo out of his loyalty to owners Jerry and Ann Moss and trainer John Shirreffs. |

Backtalk beat Flatter Than Me by a length Friday in the $110,500 Bashford Manor Stakes at Churchill Downs. Backtalk, ridden by Miguel Mena, ran six furlongs in 1:11.08 and paid $3.60, $2.60 and $2.20. Flatter Than Me returned $3.60 and $3.20, and Brassy Boy paid $4 to show. Backtalk gave trainer Tom Amoss his second Bashford Manor victory.

| Go Go Shoot held off Timely Advice by a half-length Friday in the in the $75,000 Mr. Prospector Stakes at Monmouth Park. Trained by Bruce Levine and ridden by Eddie Castro, the 4-year-old gelding covered six furlongs on the fast main track in 1:08 3-5 and paid $4.60, $2.60 and $2.40. Timely Advice returned $3 and $2.20, and Unwritten paid $3 to show. |

Jazzy wins Belmont's Caress Stakes (AP) |

Jazzy, a 24-1 long shot, beat J Z Warrior by a half-length Friday in the $68,200 Caress Stakes for fillies and mares on the turf at Belmont Park. The 7-year-old Jazzy, trained by Mark Hennig, snapped a 10-race losing streak dating to her victory in Belmont's Gallant Bloom Handicap on Sept. 22, 2007.
